Delivery of courses in 2017/18

Following the University’s announcement to relocate the upper site of Warsash Maritime Academy into Southampton city centre, we can now announce relocation plans affecting tuition provision.

Our first certification award (Officer of the Watch Unlimited) and officer cadet teaching provision will be delivered from dedicated premises at Southampton City College (in what is currently known as the Austen building) from September 2017. This building will be exclusively for our maritime students and will contain excellent classrooms, the required workshop facilities, and will be branded as Warsash Maritime Academy.  Importantly the new Academy building will be located close to the officer cadet halls of residence with single study bedrooms. All students will have access to sports, social and learning facilities at City College as well as facilities at the University's East Park Terrace campus.

The teaching provision for Merchant Navy senior officers, commercial yacht certification, bridge, engine and liquid cargo operations simulation courses will remain at the Warsash campus until transition to the East Park Terrace campus from 2018. For these courses, the University is embarking on a refurbishment programme of the Reginald Mitchell building at its East Park Terrace campus. This will include classrooms, labs, workshops and the simulator suite, and is only a ten minute walk from the new Academy building.

Teaching for the fire school, maritime safety and offshore, first aid and medical, and seamanship courses will continue to be delivered from the lower site at the Warsash campus. Our ship handling courses will continue to be delivered at the Timsbury Lake campus near Romsey.
