Master Mariner, MNI
Ben is a Master Mariner (Unlimited) who has more than 17 years' sea experience including time in command and navigating diverse vessels ranging in size from 23-foot racing yachts to 150,000-tonne crude oil tankers. Ben joined Warsash Maritime Academy as Senior Lecturer in 2004. He teaches Seamanship and Meteorology (Master Yachts), General Ship Knowledge (OOW Yachts), fire fighting and other safety related courses, and is the course leader for the MCA approved superyacht deck training modules. Ben is a member of the MCA/IAMI Yacht Qualification Panel and conducts on board crew safety training.

Class 1 Motor Engineer
Shaun joined the Merchant Navy as an engineer apprentice at the age of 16 and spent 20 years of his career working on ferries in all ranks from third engineer and ship’s safety officer to Chief Engineer, before becoming Senior Chief Engineer with P&O Portsmouth. He joined the Warsash Maritime Academy teaching faculty as a lecturer in 2005, becoming course leader for yachts in 2007. Shaun develops courses for the MCA and materials for HND/foundation degree courses in marine engineering.

Chris is a Master Mariner, RYA Yachtmaster and the course manager for all short course ECDIS training. Chris has had a varied maritime career, from skippering a racing yacht to navigating large naval auxiliaries. Since joining the academy as a senior lecturer in 2010, Chris has developed and taught numerous different ECDIS related courses. Chris contributes to ECDIS related publications and has been involved in several ECDIS working groups.

Mark is a qualified engineer who served in the Royal Navy for over 20 years in a variety of ships and submarines. Mark also spent 10 years as a training manager at a maritime training school before joining the academy as a senior lecturer in 2012. Mark teaches a range of safety, leadership and management courses and is the course leader for HELM and shipboard safety officer courses.

Martin is a Master Mariner and the course leader for yacht officer of the watch and yacht master navigation and radar (up to 3000gt). Martin spent five years in command of North Sea supply vessels prior to joining the academy in 2014. He has a broad range of experience working on different types of commercial vessels.

Master Mariner, FHEA, MNI
George is a master mariner with six years' command experience, and over 20 years at sea in vessel types such as square riggers, bulk carriers, survey vessels and offshore supply. George joined the academy as an associate lecturer in 2004 and has taught a wide range of subjects. George is also an independent marine consultant, conducting ISM, ISPS and navigation audits for a number of clients, and is the chief vessel safety inspector for Sail Training International.

Captain Barry Sadler contributes experience and knowledge from a sea-going career that spans over 30 years. In the past 10 years Barry has been teaching in all areas of officer, cadet and superyacht deck disciplines. Barry has an unprecedented track record for orals prep and undertakes the academy’s MCA deck orals prep at all levels from Master 200 to unlimited Master Mariner, including all 500 and 3,000GT yacht disciplines.
