Our impressive 17-acre waterside campus contains educational, recreational facilities and comfortable on site accommodation. Our students also have access to all the resources and benefits offered by Southampton Solent University, including its innovative virtual campus and online learning environment.

Bridge simulators

Gain first-hand experience in our full mission bridge simulator (with its panoramic views and an extensive range of training scenarios) in one of our five multi-purpose bridge simulators, or in one of our three ECDIS suites.

Ship handling centre

Our ship handling centre is located at Timsbury Lake, near Romsey. The centre provides specialised training and assessment for captains and senior officers in slow-speed ship handling using scaled ship models.

This unique multi-million-pound facility offers large yacht deck officers a variety of ship handling challenges.

Engine room simulator

Our full mission engine room simulator is designed for team-based resource management training and can be linked to a bridge simulator to provide a total ship simulation training environment.

Engineering workshops

Our engineering workshops include extensive facilities for bench/hand fitting, welding, marine power plant and electrical maintenance. There are specialised laboratories for electronic navigational systems, thermodynamics, mechanical and control engineering experiments.

Fire school

Our purpose-built fire fighting training facility provides a realistic environment in which students can learn the vital techniques of fighting fires at sea.

The fire school contains a three-storey steel ship/offshore module for live fire training, a helicopter fire fighting and rescue unit, full breathing apparatus training unit with a simulated double bottom tank, fire pits, fire screen and other devices for simulating a variety of fire types.
