Radio communications GMDSS equipmentThe radio communications centre is equipped to provide students with all the communications training required for professional certification, specifically either a GMDSS Restricted Operator’s Certificate (ROC) or a GMDSS General Operator’s Certificate (GOC).

Students can develop their radio communications skills and understanding by means of demonstrations and practical exercises on our range of sophisticated radio equipment.

  • Two operations rooms fitted with live equipment which has been recently upgraded.
  • A full GMDSS simulation system which matches live equipment
  • A dedicated computer room with access to simulation tutors and an interactive GMDSS quiz.
  • Live radio-telephone suite with each student station fitted with a radio and digital message delivery system.

We have a team of five helpful and enthusiastic instructors who are passionate about their subject and who each have diverse radio experience that collectively covers all aspects of radio communications.

The GMDSS team are also experienced MCA radio examiners. Between them they have written the GMDSS: User's Handbook, worked at coastal radio stations and on board a variety of ships as radio officers. In addition, they have delivered extensive training on private yachts, superyachts and for the RNLI.
