Industry experts invited to Warsash to assess students presentations

On Wednesday 7th November 2012, BSc Marine Operations Management students at Warsash Maritime Academy will be facing a panel of senior figures from industry as part of an assessment in a unit on Maritime Technology.

Six teams of students have been assigned to go through a tendering process to win a contract in ergonomic ship design. Each team is required prepare a bridge design for a ship of their choice and then present their proposals to the external panel acting as the shipping company’s CEO and board of company executives.

The industry expert panel includes:

Sam White, Head of Customer Engagement - Transactional Banking - UK RBB Products and Segments - Barclays Bank PLC

Nick Jeffrey, General Manager - UK Towage Operations at Solent Towage (UK subsidiary of Ostensjo Rederi AS)

Martin King, Port of Southampton Marine Pilot - Associated British Ports

Gordon Meadow, Senior Lecturer at WMA is behind the assessment and will sit on the panel, said, “This is an excellent opportunity for students to work on a tendering process and then experience presenting to a panel of external experts from industry. We are very grateful for the support from our industry guests, as it is an invaluable learning experience for our students.”

The students are currently undertaking an 11 week training programme at Warsash, towards an Honours Degree.
