New MIN - NoE Expiry and Resits

Check out the new MIN 451 (M+F) issued today by the MCA, it contains an update with regards to the expiry of NoE's and the time required between re-sits.

The Marine Information Notice (MIN) can be summarised as follows:

  • Notices of Eligibility (NoE's) are valid 5 years from the date of issue. There is an expiry date stamped onto the NoE, after which a full new application has to be made (including re-assessment of the sea time).
  • If a candidate fails an oral examination, two weeks need to elapse before re-sitting the exam.
  • The re-sit interval may be reduced at the discretion of the Examiner and is depending on the severity of the initial fail.

The above rules will also apply to yachts. For more information, read MIN 451 (M+F) here.
