Solent recognised by Quality Assurance Agency

QAA-2013-web-250Southampton Solent University has been awarded the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) kitemark to confirm the University’s quality and standards of teaching and learning.

The QAA review team report, which was published on 30 August, identified a number of features of good practice at the University.

The report noted that Solent’s innovative approach to employability, which includes extensive use of real-world learning, has had a demonstrable impact on students’ experiences. The University’s comprehensive and inclusive range of support mechanisms for students such as succeed@solent, which provides academic advice and support to students were also highlighted. Solent’s strategic development programme, which has enhanced student learning opportunities and brought about a more outward focussed and proactive approach across the University was also praised in the report.

“We are delighted that the quality of what we provide here at Southampton Solent University has been confirmed by the QAA in this report,” commented Dr Ann Read, Dean of Academic Services.

“We are proud of our real-world approach to learning in higher education, and pleased that the external review team commended us for the positive impact our provision has had on the student experience.”

The QAA, which safeguards the public interest in the quality and standards of UK higher education, checks how UK universities and colleges maintain their academic standards and quality. It reviews and reports on how they meet their responsibilities, identifies good practice and makes recommendations for improvement.

The Solent report follows the visit from the QAA reviewers in June.
