Huge interest in maritime careers at our open day

1 open day jan 2015On Friday 23 January, we held our first open day of the year and welcomed over 600 visitors to Warsash, proving the maritime industry remains buoyant as the demand for well qualified ship’s officers attracts people from around the country.

Potential future captains and ships’ officers found out what a career in the maritime industry has to offer and the training programmes necessary to qualify as a ship's navigation, engineer or electro-technical officer.

2 open day jan 2015Visitors came from over 42 different counties around the UK, as well as the Republic of Ireland, Romania and Italy. They included young people either at school studying for their GCSEs or school leavers, sixth formers and those looking for a second career.

The highlight was the opportunity to speak to the shipping companies recruiting potential officer cadets, including: Anglo-Eastern (UK) Ltd, Bibby Ship Management (WE) Ltd, BP Maritime Services, Carisbrooke Shipping Ltd, Carnival UK, Chiltern Maritime, Clyde Marine Training, Deeside Crewing Services (Vroon), Maersk Crewing, Northern Marine Manning Services, Princess Cruises, Royal Fleet Auxiliary, Ship Safe Training Group and Viking Recruitment.

An exciting programme of events was offered throughout the day at the academy, including the opportunity to take the helm of a ship in our high-tech bridge simulators.
