The superyacht industry has evolved consistently over the past decade with the number of yachts growing by 77 per cent between 2001 and 2010. Experts predict further steady expansion as countries such as Russia, China and India fuel growth, new yacht builds and with it new job opportunities.
More than 6,000 companies currently operate in the superyacht sector and jobs created are worth €5.99 billion annually.
It’s estimated that there are 33,000 crew members employed on yachts, while there are between 150,000 and 130,000 land based support jobs and up to 100,000 contractor and day worker jobs.
There are estimated to be 4,433 yachts in operation, with hundreds more under construction.
The average yacht size is a 45.5 metre motor yacht and most of them are constructed in Europe.
The main cruising areas include the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.
