This course is based on lecturer led learning and revision, followed by the examination on the afternoon of the final day. 

A full set of study notes is provided on application and six weeks’ preparatory study must be undertaken prior to attending the Academy.

The course and examination addresses a range of statutory and operational issues including health and safety, pollution, M Notices, dry docking procedures and planned maintenance. The syllabus also covers hull and machinery surveys, voyage planning, fire prevention, fuel consumption, damage control and flooding and aspects of ship construction.
