Developing the Designated Person Ashore

About this course

The role of designated person has been introduced by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) as part of the requirements for a safety management system.  Designated persons are required to monitor yacht and shore-based safety and pollution prevention aspects and to ensure adequate resources are allocated to enable these aspects to function effectively.

This unit critically explores issues that impact upon the effective performance of the role of a designated person, encouraging students to reflect upon the role and the means by which they analyse and evaluate their organisation's safety and environmental performance and influence its future development.
