The Monaco Yacht Show (19-22 September) was a fitting back drop to the eagerly awaited launch of Warsash Superyacht Academy. Located at the port of Monte Carlo, the show runs for four days and is considered to be the most prestigious pleasure boat show in the world, guaranteed by the strict selection of the exhibiting companies in order to present products and services of the highest quality.
The exhibition welcomes around 28, 000 professional and private visitors and includes a selection of well over 100 super and Megayachts from 25 to 90 metres. It is hailed as the Superyacht meeting of the year for owners, charterers, yachting managers, luxury yachting service providers, designers, manufacturers, Captains and crew.
WSA exhibited at the show within the SYUK (Superyacht UK) pavilion and, in addition, were one of the key sponsors of the Captain’s Hideout, exclusively set up for Captains and crew from the Superyachts exhibiting at the show. The Captain’s Hideout is hugely popular, as it offers a meeting place to dine and mingle with colleagues. This was an important venue to promote WSA and discuss training requirements for crews in an informal setting.
On the Thursday, WSA invited guests to a presentation held at the International School of Monaco, to formally announce the launch. Andrew Hair, Director of Warsash Maritime Academy was the keynote speaker, accompanied by Peter Vogel, Managing Director of Interior Yacht Services and Joey Meen, Honorary Secretary of PYA (Professional Yachting Association).
Joey Meen announced that Warsash Superyacht Academy is the first PYA GUEST (Guidelines for Unified Excellence in Service Training) accredited training provider. In addition, WSA will be the first training organisation to run the series of PYA accredited interior crew training courses starting in November 2012.
The occasion was well attended by industry leaders, superyacht companies and crew, as well as being supported by Warsash Superyacht Academy's business partners, Burgess, Viking Recruitment, Wilson Halligan, Regs4yachts and Yachts XL. After the presentation, guests enjoyed cocktails and entrées at the Malborough Gallery in Monte Carlo, providing guests with an opportunity to network and share information and views on the industry.
